Throughout half term, Eastgate will be hosting Talent Week, a week long event designed to showcase talent in the Basildon district, and encourage young people to think about how they might use their talents in the world of work.
Visit the special Talent Week website www.talent-week.co.uk and follow the online guide to design your very own Talent Week brick and you could win an Apple iPad or iTouch!
Numerous local organisations will be visiting the Talent Week stand to provide information and activities for young people throughout the week. Rhythm and Funk workshops and special performances from the Kayzar Entertainment crew will beheld daily in the Food Terrace R&F studio. Participation in all Talent Week events is free of charge. Monday 25 October: Volunteering Representatives from the Wildlife Trust, St John Ambulance, RSPB and other charities will be on hand to talk about how you can help others.
Tuesday 26 October: ApprenticeshipMeet local business people and entrepreneurs and find out how to enrol for a fast track apprenticeship and learn a living. Talk to representatives of South Essex College, Connexions, Prospect College and LifeSkills.
Wednesday 27 October: Retail DayRetailers from Eastgate and the National Skills Academy Retail will be talking about a career in retail and are staging demonstrations including fragrance sampling, fashion, hairstyling and visual art. Nando's an Starbucks will be on hand to provide refreshments.
Thursday 28 October: Armed Forces DayVisit the Royal Anglian Regiment and the Royal Airforce and enjoy their special exhibition. Talk to old WW2 veterans and help them to sell poppies on the first day of the RBL Poppy Appeal.Friday 29 October: Music & Dance Meet the local musicians and dancers with special performances of Kayzar Entertainments. Try your hand on music mixing or be live on air with Gateway 97.8. Free workshops throughout the day.
All week our ‘Talent Wall’ will be on display in the centre providing a snapshot of the talents and careers aspirations of local young people.
