Holy Motors! Batmobile coming to Basildon
One of the movie industry’s most iconic cars will be the star attraction at a two-day Batman Bonanza at Eastgate shopping centre this half term.
Batman will be parking up the Batmobile at the shopping centre on Friday 2 and Saturday 3 June. The iconic car, from the 1989 film starring Michael Keaton, will be on display outside Starbucks between 11am and 3pm each day.
The fully working, roadworthy Batmobile comes complete with crime fighting gadgets including a flame thrower at the rear and hydraulic suspension enabling the car to be lifted a further nine inches off the ground.
On Friday 2 June Batman’s superhero pals Spiderman, Optimus Prime and Iron Man will be making appearances in Eastgate. There will also be a superhero craft workshop where youngsters can make capes, shields and masks to take home.
On Saturday 3 June bestselling comic artist James Parsons will be there with his Crazy Comic Club workshop. Youngsters can learn to draw superheroes and help James create a giant comic strip on the day.
Caped crusaders Wonder Woman and Batgirl will also be there, towering above shoppers on stilts, keeping the city safe and posing for photos.
Eastgate manager Ian Clark Said: “The Batmobile is such an iconic car we’re sure to attract fans young and old to Basildon to see it on display. Comic heroes are so popular at the moment, with lots of new movies coming out this year, so we’re sure that it will be a popular half term event.”
