Model required for recycled wedding dress that is set to fly the flag for St George’s Day in Basildon
To paraphrase that old wedding adage: something old, something borrowed is set to create something new as Fashion students from South Essex College will be creating a St George’s Day themed wedding dress made completely from recycled ones.
Prince William may have found his Princess in Kate Middleton but now Basildon is looking for its very own English Rose to model this unique one-off design to help celebrate Saint George’s Day.
Kicking off the week-long run up to the Royal Wedding, the Saint George’s Day celebrations on Saturday 23rd April will see a series of fashion shows held at the Eastgate Shopping Centre to fly the flag for British fashion.
The event organisers, Basildon Borough Council, South Essex College and the Eastgate Shopping Centre, are now searching for Basildon’s very own English Rose to model a unique one-off wedding dress in the finale of the Saint George’s Day Fashion Show which will also feature work from Fashion students at South Essex College.
Harriette, a BND Fashion Design student, said: “It’s a really exciting project and this is the first time that many of us will have seen any of our work on the catwalk, which is every fashion designer’s dream. The Eastgate Centre is a great public space so you can’t get much better than that as a platform for your work to be seen and enjoyed.”
The lucky winner will be treated to a makeover by Debenhams and have their hair styled by Rush to guarantee they feel like a real princess before hitting the catwalk to model a Saint George’s themed wedding dress made from recycled wedding dresses by Fashion students at the College.
To enter, models need to be aged between 16 and 26 years of age at the time of entry, be a standard dress size 10 – 12 and must be available from 9am – 3.30pm on Saturday 23rd April 2011.
If you think you have what it takes send your name, contact details, date of birth, size, height as well as a head shot and full body shot to: Esther Hamilton-Dick, Marketing Team, South Essex College of Further & Higher Education, Basildon Campus, Nethermayne, Basildon, Essex SS16 5NN or email your entries to Esther.Hamilton-Dick@southessex.ac.uk. If you have a wedding dress you like to recycle then why not give it a new lease of life and donate it to the Saint George’s Day Fashion show? Please drop off your unwanted wedding dresses to the Basildon Centre, St Martin’s Square for the attention of Angela Christall, Marketing & Communications.
