Gateway 97.8 Wins the Queens Award
GATEWAY 97.8 WINS THE QUEENS AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE - THE MBE FOR VOLUNTEER GROUPS!
It has been announced that Gateway 97.8 FM, the community radio station based at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Basildon, has won The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
This is the highest honour that can be conferred on any volunteer group by Her Majesty the Queen. It is awarded in recognition of outstanding work in the community and is equivalent in status to an MBE.
The announcement comes after a lengthy nomination process which included the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Essex assessing Gateway FM locally. Following this, a written nomination was sent to an Assessment Panel before being referred to the National Award Committee, headed by Martyn Lewis CBE. Once selected, Gateway FM’s nomination was then sent to The Queen for ratification before the Award was announced on 2nd June.
Directors Yvonne Williams, Ros Connors and Danny Lawrence recently attended a Buckingham Palace Garden Party in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh.
Danny Lawrence said: “This is fantastic news for the community station and comes six months after winning the Prime Minister’s Big Society award.
“Gateway 97.8 goes from strength to strength and what great news this is in The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year!”
